Beyond Banking
I was helping a couple of members who are roommates a few weeks back. They told me that Dom was going through cancer treatment and his roommate was heading off for a work trip. Dom mentioned he needed to find someone to help him with their animals while his roommate was gone away on business. I offered to come by and help.
I stopped by on Thursday to check on Dom and the animals. While there, he showed me a hot water heater that was leaking and had started to rot the wood floor underneath. Due to medical expenses for his cancer treatment, he did not have the extra funds to have it fixed. I told him I would look for community resources to help him with his hot water heater issue.
I came across City Gates Ministry and gave Dom their phone number. I was thinking the organization would only be able to refer Dom to another resource or at most provide $100.00 to purchase a new hot water heater. Dom called me a few days later to tell me City Gates Ministry had dropped off a hot water heater for him.
Dom asked City Gates Ministry if they could use some thermal windows, a washer/dryer, dishwasher and a refrigerator that he no longer needed. These items were picked up. Dom was told his call was able to provide six additional families assistance from the items he donated.
Dom was so thankful and appreciative that his financial institution would do so much more than provide a place to keep his money. An opportunity to help a member with his pets led to Dom being able to give back to his community as well. – Kolleen, Olympia Account Manager
