POSTED 3/30/2020-Avoid Coronavirus Scams

Here are some tips to help you keep the scammers at bay.
  • Hang up on robocalls. Don’t press any numbers. Scammers are using illegal robocalls to pitch everything from scam Coronavirus treatments to work-at-home schemes. The recording might say that pressing a number will let you speak to a live operator or remove you from their call list, but it might lead to more robocalls, instead.
  • Ignore online offers for vaccinations and home test kits. Scammers are trying to get you to buy products that aren’t proven to treat or prevent the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) — online or in stores. At this time, there also are no FDA-authorized home test kits for the Coronavirus. Visit the FDA to learn more.
  • Fact-check information. Scammers, and sometimes well-meaning people, share information that hasn’t been verified. Before you pass on any messages, contact trusted sources. Visit What the U.S. Government is Doing for links to federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Know who you’re buying from. Online sellers may claim to have in-demand products, like cleaning, household, and health and medical supplies when, in fact, they don’t.
  • Don’t respond to texts and emails about checks from the government. The details are still being worked out. Anyone who tells you they can get you the money now is a scammer.
  • Don’t click on links from sources you don’t know. They could download viruses onto your computer or device.
  • Watch for emails claiming to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or experts saying they have information about the virus. For the most up-to-date information about the Coronavirus, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Do your homework when it comes to donations, whether through charities or crowdfunding sites. Don’t let anyone rush you into making a donation. If someone wants donations in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money, don’t do it.
  • The IRS will not call you asking for account information in order to deposit your stimulus check.

POSTED 3/20/2020-Keep Your Cash in Your Credit Union, Where it is Safe and Insured
In times of crisis, we know our members have lots of concerns. Fortunately, the safety and security of your financial accounts need not be one of them. Your accounts continue to be insured by the Share Insurance fund administered by the National Credit Union Administration, up to $250,000. That makes your credit union the safest place anywhere for your hard-earned savings. No American has ever lost a single penny on their insured accounts in any federally insured credit union in the country.

The nation’s financial system continues to operate smoothly and efficiently allowing you to transfer money to pay bills and other expenses through your debit card, credit card, or electronic transfer, without taking on the worry and risk of holding cash.

It is important to remember that if you lose your debit or credit card that they can be replaced. There is no replacement for cash that is lost or stolen. Using credit or debit cards for payments is especially important now when we all are being asked to practice social distancing. You can still meet most of your obligations without leaving your home, thanks to your credit union.

Knowing your money is safe at your credit union is one less concern for you, our members. Should you have any financial needs during this difficult period, we are just a keyboard click or phone call away.

Your savings are safe and secure. Keeping YOU safe and secure is our number one priority.

Please give us a call if you have any questions or concerns at 360-943-7676/800-327-4286.

We appreciate the trust you place in evergreenDIRECT Credit Union (eDCU), including our commitment to safeguard your health and safety as you interact with us.

As always, our priority is to protect our members and our staff as we perform our daily business. In the current environment, we are following guidance from health experts and elected officials at the state and local levels to stop the spread of germs and reduce risk.

Here are some of the actions we have taken to date:

  • First, we are encouraging members who may be planning a visit to the credit union to reconsider. Keep in mind that it isn’t necessary to meet with us in person for you to conduct your business. The eDCU website, ATMs, and your online account access options provide a number of tools and resources, including the ability to apply for loans, and withdraw and deposit money, and you can always connect with us by email and telephone.
  • If you do visit eDCU, you’ll find that we are practicing social distancing and minimizing personal contact (avoiding handshakes, for example). Also, we are frequently disinfecting common areas and workspaces in our branches.

These are uncertain times for our community, our state, our country, and the world. We fully understand that members will be apprehensive about a number of things, including their financial institutions. Please be assured that eDCU has developed and practiced contingency plans for events such as this, and we are well prepared to maintain our core business functions, particularly to ensure that you have access to manage your accounts and loans.
